A first-of-its-kind interactive digital tool – displaying data collected by thousands of citizen science divers – tracks the health of vital reef ecosystems all around the world. Dive in… and explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
Reef Life Explorer makes the underwater world visible, bringing to life data from over 26,000 surveys across 4,000 sites in 54 countries & territories... representing almost 5,000 species and over 19 million individual animals.
It represents a unique collaboration between professional & citizen scientists, with Reef Life Survey and the internationally-recognised Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) at the University of Tasmania processing and analysing millions of rows of data to discover meaningful insights and trends. Insights that have been brought to life through an immersive, interactive map developed in partnership with social impact and experience design agency GLIDER.
About Reef Life Survey
Reef Life Survey is a leading non-profit citizen science program that monitors the marine life and reef biodiversity of rocky and coral reefs around the world. RLS provides a new model for ecological monitoring through training experienced recreational divers in underwater visual census methods to the level of skilled scientists.

Currently undertaking her final year of a Bachelor degree in Animation at the Victorian College of the Arts, Claudia's interdisciplinary approach to animation is primarily endorsed by her interest in environmental conservation, femininity and identity. Inspired by Surrealist paintings, Claudia endeavours to create a multi-sensory, dream-like celebration of our environments in collaboration with musician Rory Vagg.
Rory is a composer and songwriter from Melbourne Australia. His eclectic catalogue spans film, animation and dance and he can be found most often in his room with all the lights off, as is his natural writing environment.
