Join Industry leaders, innovators, scientists, government and community leaders to discuss how to 'turn the tide' on plastic in our ocean

This Volvo Ocean Lovers Festival impact event will delve into science and issues surrounding ocean plastic, explore the modern-day solutions and review future innovative opportunities for action.

 

Together we will seek to make a collective impact, move beyond talking, and instigate real change to purge our ocean of plastics.

This event is an opportunity to learn from those solving the issues, and to engage and be inspired to help better protect our ocean.

In this session, you will hear valuable insights into the plastic pollution problem including key sources, trends, and known and potential impacts of ocean plastic pollution.  Dr Denise Hardesty (CSIRO) will provide provide a short presentation, and then joined by  Dr Charlene Testrail (UTS), Heidi Tait (Tangaroa Blue), Dr Michelle Blewitt (AUSMAP) and Pete Ceglinski (Seabin) for an interactive panel discussion with audience Q&A.

EXPLORING CURRENT ACTIONS

In this session, we will hear and discuss insights from current actions being undertaken to reduce ocean plastic pollution, including 'at source', recycling, treatment and 'clean up' initiatives.  Professor Veena Sahajwalla (UNSW) will provide provide a short presentation, and then be joined by Anissa Lawrence (Ghostnets Australia), Shannon Mead (No More Butts), Lottie Dalziel (Banish), Murray Powell (Optimal Stormwater), and Mayor Paula Masselos (Waverly Council) for an interactive panel discussion with audience Q&A.
