About

Inspire your students with a planet-saving passion for ocean innovation. Following the enthusiastic response from teachers and students at both the 2023 and 2024 Sea Science Student Expos at our Ocean Lovers Festival, we are excited to announce its return again in 2025 with the continued support of the IMC Foundation.

If your secondary students are considering undergraduate studies in fields such as science, technology, innovation, geography and environmental science, and are passionate about the ocean, this will be a perfect opportunity to inspire them towards decisions about their tertiary education and career opportunities.

You can bring a select small group of your most passionate, engaged students or a whole class or year, or more. The choice is yours.

The annual Ocean Lovers Festival showcases world-leading innovations created by Australian marine scientists that are positively changing our world. Projects like the Living Seawalls (a global Earthshot Prize finalist), Operation Crayweed (restoring Sydney’s coastal habitat), underwater drones, coral restoration, seahorse protection and research into developing a bluebottle prediction tool have all been highlighted previously.

About

Secondary school students are invited to a half-day expo on Friday, March 14, 2025 to see science displays, and listen to and meet marine scientists and course leads from participating universities and other ocean institutions like the conservationists from SeaLife:

  • Hear about study options in science, particularly marine-related;

  • Ask questions of the scientists and faculty staff;

  • Be inspired by how past science students have used their studies in their work;

  • See how science helps to restore nature and support our ocean.
